ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK DIVJE BABE
It is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Early Stone Age in the world. Above the valley of the Idrijca river, in the rocky slope of the Šebrelje plateau, lies a hidden cave in which bones from different animal types, stone and bone tools, and remains of fire pits from ice-age people were found.
The famous discovery is of course the world’s oldest musical instrument in the world. Neanderthal bone flute is approximately 60,000 years old. It was made from the left thigh bone of a young cave bear into which four holes were drilled and a sharpened rim for the mouthpiece was made with a help of tools made of bone and stone.
The discovery made the Cerkno Region “the cradle of world music”.
